Cost of copper causes professionals to seek an alternative

24 Feb 11 With the value of copper rising by up to 200% over the last two years, and now at a record high, according to the London Metal Exchange, now is the time for plumbers to look at more cost effective alternatives, according to Gary Fisher, UK General Manager of Buteline.

“The high market value of scrap copper makes many plumbing systems targets for vandalism by those looking to sell it on for profit. To combat this, installers need to seriously consider a non-demountable polybutene system”, believes Gary.

The market has witnessed a four percent shift in installers moving away from copper to plastic systems. However, many professionals are still wary of the security offered by generic plastic push-fit systems meaning a simple, affordable and leak free solution is key to delivering a sensible alternative to alleviate the concerns of the installer.

“With the price of copper continuing to increase, many plumbers are looking to alternative systems that are more cost effective, both in terms of purchasing and pricing out to the customer. A system such as Buteline’s clampseal solution has a 25-year guarantee, is competitively priced and doesn’t require future repairs. Not only can the incorporation of a system of this nature help to reduce raw material costs but, due to the quick installation method, can also halve the associated labour time involved meaning installers can further keep costs down and their profits up.

Fittings comprising of no O-rings, grab rings or spacers, and pipe that has no requirement for inserts, removes most of the installers concerns, and due to the simplistic installation process, virtually removes any risk of installer error, providing complete peace of mind.

As copper prices stand at an all time high, now is the time for plumbers to switch to an alternative system that will always be affordably priced, regardless of market conditions impacting the cost of raw materials,” added Gary.
