David Wilson begins £100m York housing scheme

10 Mar 11 David Wilson Homes has been selected to develop the £11m first phase of a £100m housing scheme at Derwenthorpe in York.

Client is the Joseph Rowntree Housing Trust, in association with City of York Council and the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).

David Wilson Homes, part of the Barratt group, will build the first 64 homes at the site east of York city centre. Work on site begins this month, with completion due in summer 2012.

Once completed, Derwenthorpe will provide a range of 540 homes.

In phase one, 25 of the 64 homes will be designated as affordable housing, available either as socially rented accommodation or as shared ownership. JRHT will remain commissioners of the Masterplan for Derwenthorpe and long-term stewards of the land.

Paul Newman, managing director of David Wilson Homes Yorkshire East, said: "We are very pleased to have been selected to develop the first phase of this hugely exciting residential project. We will deliver homes of the highest quality, whilst employing a significant number of local people and also training apprentices on site."
