Doosan expands new DX crawler excavator series

17 Jan 13 Doosan Construction Equipment has launched its Stage IIIB compliant DX420LC-3 large crawler excavator.

The manufacturer claims that the new machine has more power than the predecessor model, with greater drawbar pull, digging forces and lifting capacities.

The DX420LC-3 is a heavier version of the DX300LC-3 and DX340LC-3 crawler excavators that were launched last year.

The latest machine in the series is powered by the Isuzu AL-6UZ1X ‘common rail’ 6-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine meeting Stage IIIB engine emission regulations, using both exhaust gas recirculation and diesel particulate filter after-treatment. The new engine delivers 19% more power - 270 kW (362 HP) at 2,000rpm - with a 6% increase in engine torque, Doosan says.

A new travel device contributes to an increase in drawbar pull by 10%, a 5% increase in swing torque and a 10% increase in the travel speed.

Other improvements include new hydraulic pumps and valves that have increased main pump flow by a claimed 6%, providing a combination of higher overall pressures and hydraulic flow for smoother operations.

A 9% increase in the system hydraulic pressure up to 350 bar results in higher lifting capabilities, faster cycle times and higher breakout forces, Doosan says. Compared to the previous model, the front end lifting capacity has been increased by 14%, while side end capacity has been boosted by 2%. The arm/bucket digging forces have both been increased by up to 3%.

At 41.9 tonnes, the DX420LC-3 is one tonne heavier than the predecessor version. Track links, track springs, sprockets and bushings have all been reinforced for longer service life.
