Drake & Scull signs Doha deal

20 Feb 13 Drake & Scull Qatar has won a QR304m (£53.9m) mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) contract for a mixed-use real estate development project in Doha.

The contract covers the design, supply, installation and commissioning of all MEP works for the project, which involves substructure and superstructure works on a 260,000m2 site encompassing various structures such as residential buildings, schools, utilities, offices and shops.

Drake & Scull Qatar area general manager Karem Akawi said that the company expected Qatar to develop into a long-term market on par with other regional powerhouse markets such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE. “The gradual roll-out of the ambitious infrastructure development programme related to Doha’s hosting of the World Cup in 2022 and the Qatar National Vision 2030 is a key factor that is driving market growth,” he said. “In addition, there is also the rail side that is coming on stream – another priority project of the government that is part of our target areas.”
