East London councils put £700m framework out to tender

16 Mar 11 Four east London boroughs that make up the East London Solutions group are calling for bids from contractors to join a four-year framework deal that could be worth as much as £700m.

The London Boroughs of Barking and Dagenham, Redbridge, Havering, Newham and Tower Hamlets anticipate having up to 18 contractors on three separate framework contracts for: housing construction; education and other construction services; and general construction (lower value).

The general construction (lower value) framework will cover smaller construction projects with an estimated construction cost between £50,000 £2m.

Both the housing framework and the education and other services frameworks will cover projects with an estimated construction cost more than £1.5m.

Contractors appointed to the education and other services framework will be required to carry out major refurbishment and modernisation projects and building extensions in both occupied and unoccupied premises as well as new build projects for both educational and public premises and works in parks and public spaces.

The projected spend of each council for the next financial year has yet to be determined, although it is estimated that it could be £125m, with £50m in Newham, £40m in Redbridge, £25m in Tower Hamlets and £10m in Havering.
