There was a fall in seven of the member states with data available and a rise in eight, with the UK showing one of the largest declines. The largest decreases were observed in the Czech Republic (-5.6%), Romania (-4.9%) and the United Kingdom (-4.0%), and the highest increases in Slovenia (+9.6%), Poland (+3.9%) and Hungary (+3.0%).
The first estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, also show a fall compared to November 2012 with declines of 1.7% and 1.6% respectively.
Building construction fell by 1.1% in the Euro area and by 1.4% in the EU28, after -0.6% and -0.3% respectively in October 2013. Civil engineering rose by 1.0% in the Eurozone, but decreased by 0.3% in the EU28, after -1.6% and +0.8% respectively in the previous month.
In terms of the annual comparison, production in construction fell in nine of the states with data available, remained stable in Germany and rose in five. The largest decreases were registered in Portugal (-13.0%), Italy (-10.8%), Bulgaria(-9.1%) and theCzech Republic(-8.3%), and the highest increases in Slovenia(+30.7%), Hungary(+18.9%) and Sweden (+5.9%).
Building construction dropped by 1.4% in both the Euro area and the EU28, after -2.0% and -0.7% respectively in October 2013. Civil engineering fell by 3.1% in the Eurozone and by 3.2% in the EU28, after -3.9% and -2.6% respectively in the previous month.
