Eye-in-the-sky polices Skanska drivers

7 Feb 13 Skanska UK is using vehicle tracking technology to police the behaviour of its drivers across its utilities business.

By tracking the mobile workforce on the road, the company can produce reports on the individual driving styles for each driver. One of the aims is to reduce fueld consumption and help meet environmental targets.

The satellite tracking technology has been supplied by Isotrak.

Skanska Utilities business manager Boyd Neal said: “We are wholly committed to our green agenda and have found that by implementing Isotrak’s tracking and telematics system we have been able to keep in line with our fleet company policy, significantly reducing fuel consumption and CO2 within the business, while instilling safe and efficient driving skills into our work force.”

Isotrak’s system gives detailed information of driver behaviour, including maximum speed over a given period, harsh or dangerous acceleration, heavy braking and time spent at dangerous speeds. The information can then be used to identify areas where driver re-education is needed.
