FCC lands €200m of Peruvian contracts

27 Mar 13 FCC is to modernise Peru’s largest port and upgrade a sports complex in contracts worth a total of almost €200m (£170m).

Callao Port is one of South America's biggest Pacific ports and the €165m contract is part of an ambitious investment plan by the Peruvian government, amounting to US$1bn by 2020. The project is for piers 5 and 11, which will measure 560m and 280m, respectively.

The €32.2m Trujillo sports complex contract is in northeast Peru. the company will build an athletics stadium, an indoor arena, and supplementary infrastructure in preparation for the 2013 Bolivarian Games.

FCC has 23 months to complete work on this phase of the Callao port, which handles more than 1.9 million containers annually. The client, APM Terminals, a Maersk Group company, is the world's fourth-largest port operator.

Work on the port will modernise infrastructure and equipment,enabling it to adapt to current cargo transport demandsa s well as ship sizes and draughts. The company will also install new equipment suited to the types of cargo that will be handled.
