The appointment will take place at the next supervisory board meeting of Alpine, FCC's Central and Eastern European subsidiary. Ferrero-Waldner will replace Dietmar Aluta, who FCC kept as chairman of the supervisory board when it acquired Alpine in mid-2006.
Aluta will assist Ferrero-Waldner, who is currently a member of the supervisory board. This appointment comes weeks after Johannes Dotter was appointed managing director of Alpine.
"Benita Ferrero's cachet in Austria and her experience in international relations will help reinforce Alpine in the markets where we operate,” said FCC group chairman and CEO Baldomero Falcones.
Ferrero-Waldner said that she considers chairing Alpine's Supervisory Board to be "a great responsibility, and also a challenge". She expressed confidence that she can "contribute her experience in diplomacy and international relations to Alpine's development".
Ferrero-Waldner, who is a native of Salzburg in Austria and holds a PhD in Law, was appointed to the supervisory board of Alpine Holding in January 2011. She was formerly European commissioner for external relations and European neighbourhood policy and finally for trade. She was formerly Austria's minister for foreign affairs, candidate for the presidency of Austria in 2004, secretary of state for foreign affairs and international aid, head of protocol at the UN and a career diplomat for Austria.
