GAP invests £10m on fleet expansion and £15m on renewal

11 Mar 11 GAP Group has placed orders for £10m of plant to be delivered over the next four months. Orders include 400 units of mini-excavators, compressors, dumpers and rollers, which will be distributed across GAP’s 59 depots.

The new machinery represents expansion of the hire fleet rather than replacing old machines. A further £15m will be spent in 2011 on fleet renewal.

This is on top of GAP’s £2m investment in six lifting depots in January and a £1.5m investment in a second purpose-built non-mechanical depot in Warrington, set to open in April 2011.

GAP claims to invest more as a percentage of turnover than any of its competitors. Joint managing director Douglas Anderson said: “While many of our fellow tool and plant hirers are cutting back on expenditure and only renewing equipment, we are delighted to be moving forward by adding to our fleet in this difficult economic climate and to be able to provide our customers with exactly what they’re looking for. We always aim to exceed their expectations and we are positive that our recent investment will allow us to do so”.

The order includes 60 Ammann rollers, chosen for their safety features and lower noise and vibration levels. Kubota is supplier of choice for the mini excavators, with GAP citing the “reliable, fuel effective and environmentally friendly Kubota diesel engine”.
