The airport intends to spend £175.5m on upgrading piers, in addition to the nearly £90m currently being spent on piers 1 and 5. A further £138.5m is planned for improving departure lounges and £65.6m on new check-in concourses and bag store.
As well as using building information modelling (BIM), Gatwick is pioneering the use of micro simulation modelling programmes, such as CAST for terminal improvements and SIMMOD for airfield improvement, to assist with assessing the sequencing and impacts of construction phasing, it said.
The investment plans are contained in the airport's business plan, which it has submitted to the Civil Aviation Authority, the industry regulator, for approval.
