Green light for Bristol’s biomass power station

13 Mar 12 The government has given planning permission for a new 150MW biomass power station at Royal Portbury Dock in Bristol.

The consent allows E.ON Climate & Renewables to build a plant that could provide enough electricity to power up to 160,000 homes. The new plant will create up to 325 jobs during construction.

The plant will be fuelled mainly by imported virgin wood, dedicated energy crops and locally sourced waste wood.

E.ON has committed to pay £50,000 a year into a ‘community investment fund’ for every year the plant operates, to support local charitable and/or educational projects. A further £75,000 will also be allocated to trial green buses and improve cycle routes in the local area.

The planning application was first submitted in August 2009.

With permission now granted, construction could be complete by 2015.
