The event was attended by staff from Leadbitter as well as the current residents of St Cross Grange and their families. David Ballard, Chairman of the Trustees of Greensleeves Homes Trust, which ownsSt Cross Grange, performed the turf cutting with a spade especially engraved for the occasion.
St Cross Grange is an historic building situated in its own grounds on the outskirts of Winchester. It currently has 29 bedrooms, as well as a dining area, large lounge, conservatory, library and patio.
Leadbitter will be constructing an extension to the care home to provide two new residential blocks, as well as undertaking alterations and refurbishment to all exisiting buildings. The £4.8 million project is being carried out on behalf of the Greensleeves Homes Trust, a not-for-profit organisation that provides care and accommodation for older people at 17 locations across the country.
David Cook, Regional Director of Leadbitter’s Southern Housing and Construction Division, said: “We are delighted to be undertaking this project which will enhance this historic building. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Greensleeves Homes Trust and all who attended Friday’s ceremony.”
Kate James, Chief Executive of Greensleeves, said: “We are really pleased that work has started. The new home will have 64 fully en-suited rooms and greatly improved facilities for our residents.”
