Harlow council extends Kier's contract

23 Mar 12 Kier’s contract to provide repair and maintenance services to Harlow council housing has been extended " in both time and scope.

Kier Harlow’s contract has been extended to 31 January 2017 and environmental services have been added.

The £82.6m revised contract will see Kier Harlow continue to deliver its repairs and maintenance service to Harlow’s 12,000 tenants and leaseholders, as well as provide street cleansing, landscaping, grounds maintenance, graffiti and fly tipping removal.

Kier Harlow is the joint venture company between Kier and Harlow Council set up in 2007 to carry out work including building repairs to social housing stock and the maintenance of Harlow's open spaces. The council estimates that the revised contract will save it £4.41m over the next five years – equivalent to a 5.1% reduction in the cost of the contract – through back office savings and restructuring.

“Harlow is a real and tangible example of how this can be achieved. Not only has Kier Harlow provided an exemplar repairs and maintenance service continually receiving above target customer satisfaction scores – this current year has seen a stable rise of 3% compared to last year now averaging at 93%, we have also worked with the council to establish new revenue streams and will continue our bidding for work from other organisations, like the current £10m repairs and maintenance contract we provide for South Essex Homes.

“Our plans for Harlow will make a real difference to the lives of its residents and the town as a whole. Kier takes pride in with the communities in which it is based for the benefit of all.”
