Mclaughlin & Harvey will extend Hatston pier in Kirkwall by 160 metres, increasing the deck area by 5175 square metres. Tubular steel piles will be driven, infilled with reinforced concrete and a suspended concrete deck slab above.
The winning bid - one of six received - was £7.3m, 30% below the original project estimate of £10.5m. The project is being funded by the European Union and work is expected to take 15 months to complete.
