Highland builders welcome decision to approve Inverness West Link

2 Mar 12 Contractors have welcomed Highland Council’s decision to approve a preferred route for the proposed Inverness West Link.

Highland councillors made the decision at a meeting of the full Highland Council yesterday (1st March).

The Highland Building Employers Association, the local branch of the Scottish Building Federation, had previously warned that a failure to make a decision on the project before this year’s local government elections could set economic development in Inverness back by years.

Association president Willie Gray said he was ‘delighted’ by the council’s decision.

Mr Gray said: “I’m delighted that Highland councillors have had the courage to make a decision to press ahead with this project and have selected their preferred route. The Inverness West Link is crucial to securing a sustainable long-term economic future for Inverness. It will help ease congestion in the city centre, making it a more attractive location for businesses to base themselves and for people to visit and to live. It will open up key areas to the west of the city for potential future development. Most of all, it sends a clear message that Inverness is open for business and reinforces the city’s status as the gateway to the Highland region as a whole.”
