Highways Agency hands out trophies

16 Jan 14 The Highways Agency has named its favourite contractors in its third annual supplier recognition scheme.

There are gongs for A-one+, Amey/Concrete Repairs, Mouchel/Ramboll, the BAM Nuttall Morgan Sindall joint venture, EM Highway Services, the Skanska Balfour Beatty joint venture and also for Atkins, for its equal opportunities programme.

Awards are made in five categories. Winners of each were:

Category: Managing down cost/improving value – for suppliers that have delivered Highways Agency contracts in smarter, more efficient ways

Winner: A-one+ – for its work to reduce design costs and the duration of schemes through collaborative planning and visual management techniques.

Category:  Supply chain management – for suppliers that demonstrate the Highways Agency’s strategic agenda, values and principles through supply chains.

Joint winners: Amey and Concrete Repairs for their work with specialist carbon fibre suppliers on the M5 Quinton Interchange

Joint winner:  Mouchel and Ramboll for their work together on phase 3 of the Birmingham box smart motorways project.

Category:  Health and safety – for suppliers that show commitment to improving health and safety.

Winner: BAM Nuttall Morgan Sindall joint venture – for their work to eliminate the need for workers to cross a live carriageway on the M62 junction 25 to 30 smart motorway scheme.

Category:  Diversity and inclusion – for suppliers that have created opportunities to bring people into the workplace and developed skills and capabilities through Highways Agency contracts.

Joint winner: Amey – for supporting and developing its people, and for careful consideration of local communities in Area 9.

Joint winner: Atkins – for promoting gender balance in the workplace by attracting and supporting female employees.

Category:  Delivering sustainable value and solutions – awarded to suppliers that have integrated environmental, social, economic and management aspects of sustainable development into the delivery of Highways Agency contracts.

Joint winner: EM Highway Services – for its work in Devon and Cornwall using seeds from local meadows to create similar habitats on the Highways Agency’s roadside verges

Joint winner: Skanska Balfour Beatty joint venture for reducing the energy used and carbon footprint of the M25 widening schemes.

Highways Agency chief executive Graham Dalton said: "Yet again, large numbers of our suppliers – who are so fundamental to our business – have shown the type of innovation that will help us to be recognised as the world's leading road operator. We'll be looking to our supply chain to show more of this kind of good work to support the Highways Agency's journey as we significantly increase investment and customer service."
