Hyder wins Thames Water design commission

17 May 11 Thames Water has appointed Hyder as design consultant for the upgrading of Deephams sewage treatment works (STW).

“We will build on our involvement with previous design work at Deephams in AMP4, and draw on learning from the major upgrades of Beckton and Crossness STWs that we are currently designing for the Tamesis joint venture,” said project manager for Hyder UK Mike Irwin.

Design inputs will support both the planning application process and development of tender documents for the upgrade works themselves. The services Hyder provides will be delivered over several years in four phases, starting with development of design options that will inform the planning consultation process. In the second phase it will develop the preferred option to a level suitable to support the planning application and tendering processes. The third phase will cover support during consideration of the planning application, and development of tender documents. In the forth phase, Hyder will provide support in discharging any planning conditions.

Hyder’s design and consultancy work will be conducted as part of an integrated team led by Thames Water, including planning and environmental consultants appointed separately to the project.

Deephams STW is situated in the London Borough of Enfield and serves a population equivalent of approximately 870,000. The upgrade is needed to comply with the terms of a new discharge consent.
