Industry figures recognised in Birthday Honours

13 Jun 11 Several industry figures have been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Network Rail boss David Higgins, until recently chief executive of the Olympic Delivery Authority, receives a knighthood.

Carillion boss John McDonough receives a CBE for services to the construction industry.

There are also CBE’s for: Arup chairman Terence Hill, for services to civil engineering; Heriot Watt University’s Professor Paul Jowitt, president of the Institution of Civil Engineers, for services to technology; and civil engineer Alan Baxter, service to engineering and conservation.

Arup’s director of international development, Jo da Silva, receives an OBE for services to engineering and to humanitarian relief.

MBEs go to: Joanna Oliver, director of global programmes at the Construction Equipment Association; Kim Owen, principal construction project manager and the Welsh Assembly Government; and Dr Donald Lamont, HM principal specialist inspector (civil engineering) at the Health & Safety Executive.

There are also MBEs for Joseph Baldwin, for services to health and safety in the construction industry, and Brian Pike, for services to the construction industry.
