The team of six from across the UK leave will be spending time at seven sites in Chennai in Tamil Nadu and two in Bangalore in Karnataka, as part of Interserve’s ongoing commitment to bringing best practice to their partners on a global scale.
This is the first time Interserve has sent over a team to India to start to engage at an operational level to improve quality standards across the board.
The Interserve team including site managers, general foremen and engineers are being sent to assist its Indian associate company SIPL, in which Interserve has a 49 per cent stake.
All six team members volunteered for the experience. Their role is to improve the efficiency of the local management and operatives by improving their working practices on building sites.
The team will pass on their knowledge, skills and techniques, which will focus on basic engineering tasks, site management and logistics.
The operatives in India are currently working on projects in the residential, leisure and community sectors.
George Franks, International Director for Interserve, said: “Our presence in India is a joint venture arrangement and the Interserve team, by bringing their expertise and knowledge to the table, will demonstrate our commitment to the partnership.
“We are looking to raise the bar in terms of health and safety, quality of work delivered, and the efficiency of production.
“This particular training initiative is a first for us, and the team will have goals to achieve during their visit. They will be making a video diary to assess progress - we want to see tangible results.”
Mr Franks added: “By helping the local management and operatives to up-skill, we hope to make a real difference to their future prospects and those of SIPL. The UK team will also benefit from the experience. I am confident that the team will improve their communication skills and the overseas experience will broaden them as individuals and make them better managers.”
