Inverness plant hire firm goes under

10 Mar 11 Inverness-based plant hirer DuBye is the latest victim of the construction downturn, falling into administration after just two years of trading.

All 21 employees have lost their jobs.

The company moved into plant hire in February 2009, buying Elgin-based Derek Munro Plant Sales and took on the local Bobcat dealership.

A year later it opened a new headquarters in Inverness, moving into the former Tulloch Homes timber frame factory on the city's Longman industrial estate. At the same time, DuBye signed a deal with Tulloch Homes to supply it with plant throughout Scotland.

The company retained its depots in Elgin, Tomintoul and Turriff.
The new Inverness base represented an investment of £4m. A similar sum had already been spent at the Elgin depot the year before.

DuBye also took over GE Capital Plant Hire's operations in Inverness, with nine staff transferring.

Colin Dempster and Andrew Davison of Ernst & Young have been appointed joint administrators. Mr Davison told the Aberdeen Press & Journal: “Difficult trading conditions have resulted in a situation where the immediate cessation of trading became necessary and the unfortunate loss of jobs was unavoidable. We are currently focused on establishing the full extent of the company’s debt while gathering its assets.”
