ISG Jackson fast-tracks new Norfolk health centre

17 Mar 11 Work is underway on ISG Jackson’s circa £2 million fast-track project to build a new health centre in Gorleston, near Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.

The two-storey modular building is a temporary solution to enable NHS Great Yarmouth and Waveney to relocate vital community-based clinical services from existing unsuitable accommodation across Gorleston onto a site that will ultimately house a permanent structure.

Pressing requirements for the new facility meant that an off-site, modular structure was selected as the preferred construction solution for the health centre, which will be operational for five years initially. The project is progressing extremely well with 29 individual modular components delivered to site and erected to form the two-storey building. Once completed, the health centre will enable GPs to relocate from existing accommodation in a converted shop, whilst bringing together speech and language therapy, podiatry, physiotherapy and other clinics onto one purpose-built site.

Based at Shrublands Park in Gorleston, the impressive interior includes more than 60 rooms, with a physiotherapy gym, a large open-plan office area, a central reception and shared waiting and social spaces.  These facilities and the extensive range of consulting and treatment rooms meet all of the exacting modern health building and sustainability standards.

Stuart Talbot, divisional director for ISG Jackson Special Projects, commented: “The new Gorleston Health Centre project is both ambitious and innovative in its scope and really embraces the very latest developments in off-site construction solutions. By utilising a modular building system, we are able to deliver a completed structure in a fraction of the time taken to build this traditionally, which is of critical importance to our client.”
