ISG to build Dudley College facility

15 Feb 11 ISG has won a multi-million pound regeneration project in the West Midlands to build a new vocational learning centre for Dudley College.

In the first phase of a plan to establish a 'learning quarter' in the town, ISG will build the new facility, which will be known as Dudley Evolve. It is on the site of a former fire station close to the college's existing Broadway campus.

The façade of the locally listed fire station building will be retained and incorporated into the new development, which will provide training for the retail and leisure, public services and creative and performing arts industries.

Constructed on a sloping site, the part four-storey steel frame structure provides accommodation for a sports hall, fitness suite, a public performance auditorium and three dance studios, hair dressing and beauty salons and fine art studios, alongside numerous other resource based learning and study areas.

Targeting a BREEAM excellent performance rating, the new building will incorporate a biomass boiler, rainwater harvesting and re-use and brise soleil. The project is due to commence at the end of the month and scheduled for completion ahead of the start of the new academic year in 2012.
