Isover launches full-fill cavity slab that saves time and resources

9 Jun 11 Isover, leading developer of sustainable insulation solutions to protect both the natural and built environment, has introduced new 125mm and 150mm thicknesses to its Hi-Cav 32 range.

One of the major benefits to these new additions is that only one layer of the slab insulation will now be needed to achieve Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes in masonry cavity walls, providing U-values down to 0.17W/m²K.

Along with providing excellent thermal performance, reducing heat loss through walls and improving the energy efficiency and carbon footprint of a building, this high performing glass mineral wool full-fill cavity slab also minimises flanking sound transmission along cavity walls and removes the requirement for cavity fire barriers.

Prior to the release of 125mm and 150mm Hi-Cav 32 variants, construction industry professionals would have had to use two layers or cut slabs to fit to achieve the correct thickness of glass mineral wool insulation to meet Code Level 4 requirements.

The entire Hi-Cav 32 slab range is produced at a width of 455mm, making the product compatible with conventional wall tile spacing. This is another benefit for the installer, as no alterations should need to be made to the width.

Stacey Davis, marketing director for Isover, comments: “These additional thicknesses have been introduced following feedback from our customers. Many expressed a desire for us to create a thicker version of Hi-Cav 32 to remove the need to double up or cut the slabs to the required width, so we took the comments on board and created these new thicknesses, which not only save labour time on-site and associated costs but also help to reduce the amount of waste generated on-site.”

Hi-Cav 32 is BBA approved (certificate 90/2465) for use in masonry walls (England & Wales) as well as in several exposure zones and buildings up to and including 25 metres in height. In addition, it has a Euroclass A1 fire rating and corresponds to the BRE Global Green Guide online generic specification ‘Glass wool insulation - density 48 kg/m³’ ref 815320004 which achieves a summary rating of A+ within domestic, health, industrial, commercial, retail and education constructions.

Isover offers a range of high performance insulation products designed to meet thermal, acoustic and fire safety requirements for the built environment. The company is committed to continuously improving the way in which its products and processes impact on the natural environment and is the only glass mineral wool manufacturer to achieve the maximum possible recycled content, 86 per cent, using recycled glass that would otherwise go to landfill.

The company’s market-leading efficiency means less energy is used in the manufacturing process and the use of Isover insulation helps to reduce emissions.  Products also boast zero ODP (Ozone Depletion Potential).  Its three point plan for environmental sustainability ensures that Isover and its products, in manufacture and when in-situ, use less materials, less energy and produce less emissions.
