Jacobs wins contract for Dublin drainage scheme

22 Jun 11 Jacobs Engineering has been appointed to provide engineering consulting services for the full planning stage of work on the Greater Dublin Drainage project.

The contract involves a regional wastewater treatment plant, marine outfall and orbital drainage system.

Jacobs was awarded the contract in partnership with Tobin Consulting Engineers. Client for the scheme is Fingal County Council, acting on behalf of Dublin City Council and Meath, Kildare, Dun Laoghaire/Rathdown and South Dublin County Councils.

Jacobs and Tobin will provide services over a two-year period, covering project inception, an alternative wastewater treatment plant site assessment, pipeline and marine route selection. The work will also include preparation of a preliminary report, environmental impact statement and all documentation required for wayleaves, land acquisition and the planning process. Additionally, Jacobs is providing services up to and including obtaining planning/statutory approval and assisting in the acquisition of the necessary sites and wayleaves.

The scheme involves the provision of a regional wastewater treatment plant and associated marine outfall in the northern part of the greater Dublin area, in addition to the provision of an orbital drainage system linking the plant to the existing regional sewer network for future connections.
