JCB grabs record earnings

15 Apr 13 Excavator manufacturer JCB has reported record global earnings of £365 million, a 2.8 per cent increase on 2011, previously its best year ever.

JCB sold nearly 70,000 machines last year and the group is continuing to expand globally. It opened a £65 million plant in Sao Paulo, Brazil last September and plans to open a £62 million construction equipment factory in Jaipur India in 2014.

Chairman Sir Anthony Bamford said: “In view of the continued fragility of the global economy, which has led to renewed slowdowns in emerging and developed markets, JCB’s results in 2012 are extremely encouraging. They not only demonstrate the resilience of our business, but highlight the importance of continued investment in products, facilities and customer service.”

According to research consultancy Oxford Economics, JCB supports 24,000 jobs in the UK, including the 6,000 directly employed workers. JCB recently won £9.6 million from the Government’s Advanced Manufacturing Supply Chain Initiative (AMSCI). The cash will fund research and development activities for suppliers to JCB and Stafford-based Perkins Engines.
