Jordan Fast-Tracks Mallory Park Refurb

6 Apr 11 Road planing specialist Jordan Road Surfacing’s latest acquisition, the Wirtgen W210, helped the contractor beat the record winter freeze to finish a £300,000 refurbishment at Mallory Park race circuit on budget and a week early.

Championship bike races began at the Midlands’ premier race venue last month after resurfacing of the 1.4-mile track that organisers say will see lap times tumble for the 2011 season. Some 3,000 tonnes of surfacing material was laid, overall.

Mallory Park general manager, John Ward, is delighted with the result. “The quality is first rate and is just what was required. A complete resurface of a race track is always a little daunting. Will the new surface work? Will it be grippy? Will it be slippery? Competitors say the surface is smoother than the old and has a lot more grip.”

Company boss, Barry Jordan, says JRS’s continuing success is partly down to its ‘one-stop shop’ approach to contracting. “We have everything a client needs under one roof; all the plant necessary to carry out major road construction works or refurbishment and we have our own transport to get it where it needs to be, reliably and quickly,”

The W210 was one of the first to be sold in the UK. The powerful, compact, yet environmentally friendly milling machine is equipped with a milling drum of 2.20m working width and has a fuel-saving drive concept with two diesel engines. There are three selectable milling drum speeds, providing for a broad range of applications: large-scale surface course rehabilitation, complete pavement removal at full depth, fine milling, and many more. Other features include automatic parallel machine alignment using PTS, intelligent ISC track drive control for maximum traction, and Wirtgen’s proprietary ‘Widrive’ machine management and ‘Level Pro’ levelling systems.
