KBR team lands $668m Florida power plant

19 Apr 11 KBR has announced that a consortium of its subsidiary BE&K and a subsidiary of Babcock & Wilcox has won a US$668m (£410m) contract from the Palm Beach County Solid Waste Authority in the USA.

The work involves engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) for the county’s new waste-to-energy plant.

B&W will design and supply the boilers and air quality control systems. BE&K will provide overall construction services for the project as well as engineering and procurement for the balance of plant equipment. Work on the project is expected to begin in May.

The facility will be capable of processing 3,000t of municipal solid waste per day to produce electricity, significantly reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill.

The project is expected to create the equivalent of 325 full-time construction jobs in West Palm Beach, with more than 900 people to be employed during some phases of construction.
