Kier funds SmartLIFE students

22 Feb 11 Fifty students from the Cambridgeshire region have gained the opportunity to attend a two-day Innovative Methods of Construction (IMC) training programme run by SmartLIFE.

Kier Eastern will sponsor 25 students from Peterborough for training courses and valuable on-site visit experience. This will place potential employees together with local employers to expand opportunities for students and recruiters alike.

Students will add to tuition offered in schools via the Construction and Built Environment Diploma - by gaining two days of hands-on building practise. They will gain experience in the assembly of timber, steel and concrete framed buildings while also learning about the rapid changes that make up innovative methods of construction.

The partnership will enable students in Cambridgeshire benefit from this unique training programme supported by and learning from the best in the business, and to develop important links into the construction industry via industry leaders Kier Eastern.

SmartLIFE director David Arkell explained: "Training will take place at the SmartLIFE Centre in Cambridge and on site with sponsor companies. The two-day course, designed and led by industry practitioners, will give attendees practical experience of a range of IMC systems and demonstrate the drivers behind this evolution of current on-site practices.
