Kier gets to work in St Ives

26 Mar 12 Kier Living has secured the contract to build the second phase of the Coastline Housing development at Consols in St Ives, Cornwall.

The project involves building 27 new affordable homes for local people.

Local dignitaries including the mayor turned out for a turf cutting ceremony last week to mark the start of work.

Kier Living development manager Shaun Stapleton said: “This first turf cutting with Coastline Housing is a significant one for Kier Living. Coastline has a great reputation for providing affordable, quality homes and I hope our partnership here in St Ives will lead to us working together on many more projects in Cornwall.”

Coastline Housing project manager Alison Johns said: “We are very pleased to be working with Kier Living on phase two of the Consols development and have successfully secured funding from the Homes and Communities Agency and Cornwall Council to ensure the delivery of these much-needed affordable homes for local people.

"Kier has considerable experience in building using the latest environmental technology and we are looking forward to drawing on their knowledge in this new relationship.”

Cornwall Council principal development officer Jody Jeffrey added: “After the success of phase 1 Cornwall Council’s affordable housing team were delighted when Coastline Housing approached us for a phase 2 at Consols. The planning application was approved without a single objection. St Ives has a very high level of housing need and these houses will provide sustainable and secure accommodation for 27 local households.”
