The power station was decommissioned in 1996 and is now owned by BFL Management, which plans to develop an ‘energy park’ on the 300-acre site, using a variety of renewable fuels and bringing together leading players in the sector.
The plan is to build a range of green power plants, including, a biomass combined heat and power (CHP) plant, and anaerobic digester and one fuelled by waste tyres and plastic.
Demolition of the landmark towers is expected to proceed in March.
