Launch of Scotland’s top environmental awards

5 May 11 Clark Contracts is hosting the west of Scotland regional launch of one of Scotland’s most environmentally friendly awards programmes, the Vision in Business for the Environment of Scotland (VIBES) Awards 2011.

Last year, Clark Contracts won the VIBES Award in the Best Management category for medium size companies.  The company’s innovative waste management and minimisation processes were having a positive impact on the environment, with 71% of their waste being diverted from landfill.

Now, the Paisley based construction company is hosting the VIBES 2011 launch event on Tuesday 10th May at its head office just off the M8 near Glasgow Airport.

As Scotland’s top environmental awards for business, VIBES aims to recognise businesses of all sizes and sectors, employing good environmental practice in their daily activity, while also making significant financial savings.

Gordon Cunningham, managing director, Clark Contracts said, “We think the VIBES awards perform a vital role in highlighting the benefits of good environmental practice across all types of organisations.  This is particularly true of the building and construction industry where there is a growing awareness that waste minimisation is not only good for the environment but also contributes to the bottom line.

“We are very proud that we won Best Management category for medium size companies in the VIBES 2010 Awards and are honoured to host the regional launch of this year’s prestigious awards in the west of Scotland.  It also gives us the opportunity to demonstrate to our guests our waste management process first hand.”

VIBES Co-ordinator, Fiona Whyte said: “The VIBES Awards aim to recognise Scottish businesses which have shown commitment, action and achievement in seeking to reduce their impact on the environment.

“The launch event taking place at Clark Contracts in Paisley will be a great chance to engage with local businesses and further events are scheduled to take place across Scotland during May. We’ll also be holding a ‘VIBES surgery’ where we can offer impartial advice on how businesses can develop ideas on improving sustainable practices in their business.

“Last year the competition was of a very high standard with many deserving entrants and we hope that even more of Scotland’s leading businesses will enter this year to be in with a chance of receiving recognition for their sustainable practices.”

VIBES is a partnership between: Environmental Protection UK; NetRegs; Scottish Environment Protection Agency; Scottish Government and Zero Waste Scotland.

The scheme is also supported by: CBI Scotland; Energy Saving Trust; Federation of Small Businesses in Scotland; Future Balance; Green Business Partnership; Scottish Business in the Community and Scottish Enterprise.
