Leighton reaches financial close on Australian PPP

7 Jun 11 The SA Health Partnership consortium led by Leighton Contractors has reached financial close on South Australia’s AU$1.85bn (£1.2bn) new Royal Adelaide Hospital.

The PPP project is worth over AU$900 million to Leighton Contractors, which will design and construct the new hospital in joint venture with Hansen Yuncken.

“We have an extremely experienced team of local and national partners who are leaders in the design and construction of some of Australia’s largest infrastructure projects,” said the managing director of Leighton Contractors, Craig Laslett.

According to Leighton, the new hospital will be the largest social infrastructure project ever delivered in Australia, and the country’s most advanced hospital. “Our design team has developed a patient-centric hospital that will accommodate digitised record keeping and caters to the highest standard of patient care and services for their families,” said Mr Laslett. “It will also be the first public hospital in Australia to provide all inpatients with a single room and ensuite, providing greater infection control, patient dignity and health outcomes.”

Leighton Contractors is also an Equity Sponsor of the project through its Investment & Facility Management Division, which will invest AU$68.1m in the project. Leighton Contractors is one of five major private equity investors in the fully-underwritten project.
