Lend Lease wins £80m New South Wales refurb

6 Jun 11 Lend Lease has secured a contract worth AU$122.5m (£80m) for the refurbishment and expansion of the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Wallace Wurth building in Australia.

The redevelopment involves a 10,000m2 expansion and significant refurbishment of the existing building at the university’s Kensington campus to provide increased research and teaching space.

The scheme will be delivered by Lend Lease’s project management and construction business. It will include a new wing and an additional level built onto the existing structure, with work to be carried out while the building remains in use.

The project is due to be completed in March 2014. The completed facility will house over 25,000m2 of research, teaching, administrative and specialised facilities for more than 1,400 research staff and 700 students of the Faculty of Medicine’s School of Medical Sciences and the Kirby Institute.

“The Wallace Wurth Redevelopment for the University of New South Wales is an important addition to our social infrastructure pipeline,” said Lend Lease group chief executive officer and managing director Steve McCann. “It continues Lend Lease’s strong association with the University and further expands our expertise in the tertiary education sector.”
