Lighthouse Club appoints fundraising ambassador

8 Jun 11 Construction industry charity The Lighthouse Club has named Jennifer Deeney as its fund raising ambassador.

Mrs Deeney will champion fundraising efforts at The Lighthouse Club as part of a major re-brand and promotion drive at the charity.

Jennifer has been involved in raising the profile of construction safety since the death of her husband Kieron in a site accident in 2004. They had been married just 13 weeks.

Her husband’s death prompted her to learn more about, and campaign on, construction safety. She got a job with the Health and Safety Executive, where she studied workplace law and the systems within it. After 14 months, she left the HSE to campaign full time on construction safety. She made a film and toured the conference circuit.

Last year she launched the Deeney Fund in aid of The Lighthouse Club. Working with construction companies, the fund has raised close to £200,000

The Lighthouse Club chairman Steve Barnett said Mrs Deeney was an inspirational figure: “There are few people in our industry who know more about the impact of accidents on the lives of families than Jennifer,” he said. “We are truly excited to have her in this new role and we’re getting a very positive reaction to her appointment. Her knowledge, passion and drive make her a valuable team member and her first initiatives are progressing well.”
