LOCOG revives plan to wrap stadium

9 Feb 11 The London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) is looking to private business to revive the idea of a the fabric wrap around the Olympic stadium which it originally planned but then dropped because of budget constraints.

Following the Government's Comprehensive Spending Review last year, the provision of the Olympic stadium wrap was removed from the Olympic Delivery Authority's budget and scope.

LOCOG is now seeking expressions of interest from the private sector to supply the wrap, and is exploring possible sponsorship opportunities in return for marketing rights as part of the procurement process.

As LOCOG's commercial sponsorship programme draws to a close, this is one of the last high-profile opportunities for a corporate sponsor to gain an association with the London 2012 Games. IOC guidelines do not allow branding in venues, so the wrap will not display sponsor logos at Games time.

The opportunity to tender for the Stadium wrap is on the London 2012 business opportunities website, CompeteFor, with a deadline for expressions of interest by 18 February 2011.

LOCOG CEO Paul Deighton said:”'We have had significant interest in supplying the stadium 'wrap' from the private sector, so now is the time to start a formal tender process. There are some exciting ideas around, and we are running a process that is fair to those organisations that have expressed an interest.”
