Lovell scores bullseye at Royal British Legion social club

1 Apr 11 A makeover given to a former bar at the Higher Bebington Royal British Legion social club by affordable housing specialist Lovell has proved a hit with members of the club which is based in Wirral, Merseyside.

The housing regeneration specialist has transformed a bar area at the social club into a new function and recreation room.

Aided by a team of its subcontractors, Lovell stripped out the former bar area, plastered and decorated the ceiling and walls and installed new lighting and flooring. All the materials and labour for the new-look function room have been donated by Lovell and its subcontractor partners. Lovell is currently working in nearby Kennet Road, building five bungalows as part of a new housing development for Wirral Council.

“Club members living in the road asked if we could help out as the club couldn’t afford to do the work themselves, so we got in touch with club president Phil Power and offered to get involved,” says Lovell senior site manager Wally Roberts. “As a local firm, we enjoy pitching in to help the community. We hope people like the function room.”

Club president Phil Power says: “Everyone has done a great job and the room looks fantastic. It’s given us an additional facility which will not only be used by club members, but by other community groups and members of the public for meetings, functions and celebrations as well as for activities, such as children’s dance classes.”

The work was carried out by Lovell and a team of its subcontractors and suppliers: P & L Joinery; Hargreaves Electrical; Heatcraft Plumbing; Sunnybank Plastering; decorating firm R Smalley and Admiral Flooring.
