Lovell to build £9 million sustainable Norfolk homes scheme

27 Jan 11 Affordable housing specialist Lovell has been chosen to deliver a £9 million development of energy-efficient homes at the Barnham Cross Estate, Thetford, Norfolk for housing association Flagship Peddars Way.

The overall scheme will create 66 houses, flats and bungalows, all for social rent, for the housing association – part of Flagship Housing Group – and is going ahead with funding of £3.8 million from the Homes and Communities Agency and £500,000 from Breckland Council.

The first phase of 22 properties – 16 two-, three- and four-bedroom houses and six two-bedroom flats – at Sweyn Close / Fulmerston Road will be built to Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes. The homes will be 44 per cent more energy-efficient than properties built to current Building Regulations.

The second phase of new housing – 44 flats, bungalows and houses – will be built to Level 3 of the Code.

Laura Handford, strategic projects manager for Flagship, comments: “We are thrilled that Flagship Peddars Way can develop this important scheme.  The homes will help to regenerate the Barnham Cross Estate with good quality, energy-efficient homes, creating a community where people want to live.”

The first phase of housing is expected to be complete in March 2012 and the second phase is due to be finished in March 2013.

“As a company, we have strong expertise in delivering high-quality, sustainable housing and are excited to be using that knowledge to build these energy-saving, affordable homes,” says Lovell regional director Simon Medler.
