Lovell to build green council houses in Northolt, Ealing

24 Feb 11 Affordable housing specialist Lovell is to build a £1.3 million development of energy-efficient council homes in Northolt for Ealing Council.

This is the second development of new homes to be built by Lovell for Ealing Council through the Homes and Communities Agency’s Local Authority New Build Programme.

Work is set to start work on the 12-month construction programme in the spring.  Lovell will build 10 two, three and four-bedroom houses, all for social rent, on the site at Dabbs Hill Lane. The land was previously occupied by garages and a parking area.

Homes will meet Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, the system for measuring the sustainable performance of new housing, making them 44 per cent more energy-efficient than properties built to current building regulations. Green technology incorporated in the homes will include solar panels and high levels of insulation.

“We’re delighted to have been appointed by Ealing Council to work on our second new-build development for the local authority,” says Lovell regional director Steve Coombs. “We look forward to using our expertise in delivering high-quality sustainable housing to create energy-efficient homes for residents.”

Ealing Council’s Cabinet member for Housing, Councillor Hitesh Tailor, comments: “We desperately need more high-quality, social rented family homes in the borough.  I’m pleased we’ve now signed the contract and I look forward to work starting on site.”

Lovell is currently working on the first development of council homes it has built for Ealing Council through the Local Authority New Build Programme - a £2.17 million development of 15 houses and flats in High Lane, Hanwell.
