Mayrise IT system for Swansea’s highways inspectors

18 Apr 11 The City and County of Swansea Council has implemented highways management software from Mayrise Systems following the amalgamation of a range service delivery areas into a new StreetScene Team.

The software is facilitating the further development of mobile working and the management of more than 10,000 service requests per year received from members of the public

Mayrise for Highways allows for the automatic generation of inspection routes, identification of works with an integrated mapping module and improved management and service reporting.

“We selected Mayrise for Highways for a number of reasons,” commented Jason Parker, Highways Technical Manager at The City and County of Swansea Council. “Mayrise were the only supplier to provide the product we needed at a price the council could afford, and the software will allow us to implement new legislation, such as the Traffic Management Act, seamlessly and in a timely manner as the need arises.” He continued, “We are already an established user of Mayrise management software with solutions in place in both Street Lighting and Street Works so the implementation within Highways will provide us with continuity across the newly introduced StreetScene Team.”

Swansea Council selected Mayrise for Highways to replace an existing solution, “We migrated from an oracle based product. The new system provides an enhanced user experience with a colourful, intuitive interface that is easy to use and self-explanatory,” continued Parker. The centralised Mayrise software allows for the automatic creation of highway inspection routes based on a number of user defined criteria and interactively displays a map of the selected streets.

The Council has also recently invested in PDA devices to further support mobile working across the Highways team with inspectors, gully and road repair crews all using Mayrise software on handheld units to follow scheduled routes and identify and record defects in a range of standard forms. The data captured via these forms can be automatically uploaded to the central system saving time and money by reducing duplication of work. “The maps contained within the forms are incredibly simple yet amazingly effective. The recent upgrade of Mayrise MapNow has provided infinite possibilities for field workers to add layers of information that are relevant to the end user,” continued Parker.

Parker concluded, “The support mechanisms that Mayrise offer are second to none. Support staff are friendly, quick to respond and there is continuity of care. Mayrise also has a strong local user community who are both positive in their opinion of the software and supportive of future developments.”
