The new 300,000 sq ft centre in the village of Whiteley will have more than 50 shop and restaurant outlets. It is being built on the site of an old designer outlet centre.
Main construction is being carried out by McLaren Construction under a £26m contract for British Land and Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS).
The start of phase two follows McLaren’s recent completion of enabling works. This included demolition of an old factory outlet centre on the site as well as services diversions, preliminary highways works and the construction of a two story extension linked to a neighbouring leisure centre.
The second phase of works includes the construction of new steel framed retail unit shells within five main retail blocks centred.
The new shops are scheduled to open in spring 2013.
