Metropolitan Housing Trust and Apollo win coveted CIBSE awards

14 Feb 11 Metropolitan Housing Trust London (MHT London) and Apollo are celebrating after scooping awards at the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) 2011 award ceremony.

MHT London won Client of the Year, public sector and, together with Apollo Property Services Group, won the Carbon Champion of the Year awards.

MHT London and Apollo were awarded Carbon Champion of the Year for their Retrofit project carried out in the London Borough of Haringey in which they refurbished over 50 hard-to-treat Victorian street properties. The project aimed to not only meet but go beyond the Government’s Decent Homes Standards.

The jointly delivered project, saw residents decanted to alternative housing for 14 weeks while their properties were stripped back to the brickwork and then insulated (solid and cavity walls, lofts, floors) fitted with new double-glazed windows, efficient gas central heating, low-energy lighting and a new kitchen and bathroom.

MHT London and Apollo were chosen from eleven overall award winners and praised by the judges who said: “Refurbishment is a huge challenge and MHT London’s entry is a significant demonstration of what can be achieved by a relatively small organisation with the commitment and determination to make a real difference.”
