Mexico announces plans for £53bn water spend

24 May 11 Mexico's water authority Conagua has said that it will spend more than a trillion pesos (£53bn) under its plan for the period to 2030.

Director José Luis Luege Tamargo said that the federal government has given great impetus to the construction of treatment plants, wastewater collectors and the promotion of proper management of solid waste.

Aims of the plan to 2020 include cleaning rivers, providing safe drinking water and preventing flooding. There are projects for treatment plants, dams, river basin works, wastewater collectors and potable water pipelines.
