Milestone for major Aberdeen housing project

1 Feb 11 A project to build Aberdeen’s first mainstream family council homes in over 30 years has reached a significant milestone with a topping out ceremony.

Representatives from the community joined councillors and officials at the Rorie Hall site in Cults, where Stewart Milne Construction will build 27 new flats as part of the first phase of Aberdeen City Council’s new-build housing programme.

The Rorie Hall development consists of one and two bedroom flats with gardens for ground floor residents and balconies on the first and second floors. The development will also include communal and private outdoor space.  For the first phase of the new-build programme, including the projects at Hayton Road and Byron Park, Stewart Milne Construction will deliver a total of 85 high quality, sustainable homes.

Aberdeen City Council’s Housing and Environment convener councillor Aileen Malone said: “In the current economic climate more and more people are in need of council housing and this has been reflected in an ever growing waiting list.

“The development of affordable housing to support independent living throughout life is essential as the city requires to increase its’ workforce in order to respond to the economic opportunities planned for the future as Aberdeen continues to grow”
