Minister approves offshore wind farm expansion

20 Feb 13 One of the first offshore wind farms built in the UK has been given the go-ahead for an extension by energy secretary Edward Davey.

Up to 17 new turbines will be added to Vattenfall’s Kentish Flats offshore wind farm, which already has 30 turbines.

The wind farm – off the coast of North Kent – has been operational since 2005. Its existing capacity level would be expected to power the equivalent of 61,000 homes on average. The developer estimates the extension will enable it to power the equivalent of up to 96,000 homes on average.
