Morgan Sindall appoints Goff Davies as its education ambassador

6 Jan 11 Construction company Morgan Sindall has appointed Goff Davies as its education ambassador to work from its Cardiff office at Gwaelod-y-Garth.

The 56-year-old from Pontypool is a former head teacher who was directly involved in the design and planning of a brand new school in Newport.

He has been brought into the business to help the Morgan Sindall team develop its education portfolio across South Wales.

“The future of educational provision in Wales is exciting with The Welsh Assembly Government committed to the 21 Century Schools Programme, making all primary and secondary 'fit for purpose' for the future,” says Goff.  “This means Morgan Sindall has an excellent opportunity to work on some of these schemes and I’m here to ensure they can offer the best possible solutions for the staff and students who will be benefitting from these fantastic new buildings.”

Every local authority in Wales has been asked to submit their transformation plans to the Welsh Assembly Government, outlining how they are going to deal with surplus places in their areas. This programme has forced local education authorities to revisit their education provision. The schools are also required to provide community facilities.

“My role will involve helping with pre-qualification documentation where I can bring a specialist education insight to the table to advise on the best solutions for the educational needs of students,” explains Goff.  He adds: “As an experienced head teacher I know what a head wants from a new build -  inspiring, stimulating, exciting specialist or multi-purpose facilities that are going to provide the ‘wow’ factor that will make youngsters and staff want to come to school.

“These facilities must make communities proud and inspire people to use them 52 weeks of the year, not just within school hours or during term-time. I also understand head teachers’ concerns regarding the practicalities such as health and safety, noise, possible disruption and parking and can advise on that.”

Goff will also be helping Morgan Sindall the involve students in the company’s education projects.

One of Morgan Sindall’s most recent education successes in South Wales was the completion of Ynysowen Community Primary School in Aberfan for Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council – a sustainable school which has been designed and built for the future.

Tom Davies, Morgan Sindall operations manager for Cardiff, says: “We’re delighted to have Goff on board to help us develop our education provision all over South Wales.  Goff brings a wealth of experience with him and we’re confident his appointment will enable us to become the leading education provider in South Wales.”
