Holsworthy Agri-Business Centre is the biggest single project ever to be undertaken by Torridge District Council.

The centre will be built on a 30-site to the north of the town, alongside the A388. It will replace the current market in the town, owned by livestock auctioneers Kivells, which will operate the new centre. It will comprise livestock lairage, pens and auction rings. The centre will also include purpose built units for use by farming-related businesses.

A Tesco supermarket and 91 new houses, to be built by Cavanna Homes, will be developed on the site of the existing Holsworthy livestock market.

Morgan Sindall area director Chris Spear said: “Farming is intrinsic to the economy of Holsworthy and the new agri-centre will help provide farmers with a sustainable future. These plans will trigger other projects which will see the development of the town centre, maintaining it as a viable market town.

“This scheme will provide a huge boost for Holsworthy – not only will the completed centre provide approximately 160 jobs, but Morgan Sindall will support its economy by looking to appoint as many subcontractors from the local supply chain as possible. Morgan Sindall has a wealth of experience in delivering large-scale projects on time and to budget and we are looking forward to working alongside Torridge District Council on this significant scheme.”

Morgan Sindall is also currently on site building a £5m livestock market at Bryngwyn, near Raglan in south Wales.
