Morgan Sindall racks up £18m Telford projects

27 Feb 13 Morgan Sindall has been awarded two construction projects in Telford to start off the council's £250m regeneration of the town centre.

The company has been appointed by Telford & Wrekin Council to build a new £12m mixed-use development called Southwater One (SW1).

This includes £5.2m on a new town library, £2.2m on the council’s new ‘First Point’ and facilities, £1.3m on offices for a new Contact Centre, £2.3m on public realm improvements and £900,000 on a café/restaurant. The building will also accommodate a tourist information centre and a range of voluntary organisations.

Morgan Sindall is also on site constructing a £6.5m multi-storey car park in the town centre to provide 600 parking spaces for the Southwater development.

Southwater One is a key element of the 30-acre Southwater masterplan which is set to transform Telford town centre.

The Southwater One development and car park project are both due to complete in early 2014.

Telford & Wrekin Council leader Kuldip Sahota said: “The next few weeks will be a very exciting time as the Southwater development really steps up another gear. We are about to reach some very significant milestones on our journey to transform Southwater into the living, beating heart that Telford town centre so badly needs.”

Morgan Sindall recently completed Telford’s £4m ice rink and energy centre. It is also currently on site at the £70m Longbridge town centre regeneration scheme.
