Morgan Sindall wins £10m college work

8 Feb 13 Morgan Sindall has been appointed to two projects as part of North Hertfordshire College’s move to expand and transform its campuses.

The college, which is based across five main centres in Stevenage, Hitchin and Letchworth Garden City, is modernising and extending its campuses.

Morgan Sindall has won an £8.5m contract to transform the college’s Hitchin Campus and a £1.9m contract to extend a three-storey building next to the Stevenage campus on Monkswood Way. The building will house the Da Vinci Studio School of Creative Enterprise and is due to complete in summer 2013.

At Hitchin, Morgan Sindall will refurbish three 1960s teaching blocks on the campus. Small classrooms will be torn down to make way for larger open-plan classrooms. Externally, a glass roof will be installed over an existing courtyard to create an atrium.

The Hitchin Centre project is due to complete in August 2014, and will see between 70 and 80 people working on site at the peak of construction.

Morgan Sindall was appointed to both projects through the Smarte East Framework, set up by a coalition of Essex, Hertfordshire and Suffolk county councils.

Morgan Sindall has secured construction contracts worth a combined total of approximately £35m since being appointed to the £500m framework in 2011. Other projects include a £3.3m contract to extend Cassiobury Primary School in Watford and a £2m contract to extend Beechfield Primary in Watford.
