The first, a £28m contract with the University of Reading, is for the second phase of redevelopment of the university’s halls of residence. The work involves constructing two new halls of residence, creating nearly 900 study bedrooms. Work starts in March and is expected to be completed by July 2012.

Morgan Sindall was awarded the contract as one of the university’s construction partners in a four-year redevelopment framework worth around £200m.

The second contract, a £22m award from North Lanarkshire Council under its £250m Schools and Centres 21 programme, involves building the Chryston High School and Cultural Centre in Chryston, near Glasgow.

The new school facilities will include 50 classrooms and practical rooms, a games hall, a fitness studio and an all-weather sports pitch, while the Cultural Centre will replace a local library and community hall. Work is expected to be completed in time for the start of the 2012 autumn term.

“We are delighted to enhance our working relationships with both these clients, which further cements our position as one of the leading education contractors in the UK,” said Paul Smith, chief executive of Morgan Sindall Group.
